  40. Die   'Internet   MovieDatabase'   ist   ein  internationales  Projekt  auf
  41. freiwilliger   Basis,   das   von   der  USENET  Newsgroup  rec.arts.movies
  42. koordiniert   wird.    Ziel   dieses   Projektes   ist   die   *kostenlose*
  43. Bereitstellung  von  möglichst  aktuellen  Filminformationen  auf möglichst
  44. vielen verschiedenen Computersystemen.
  45.  
  46. Gegenwärtig  enthält die 'MovieDatabase' Informationen über mehr als 40.000
  47. Filme  und  Fernsehserien  mit  über  470.000  Querverweisen und sie wächst
  48. täglich.

  50. Die    Datenbank   enthält   Einträge   für   Schauspieler   (actors)   und
  51. Schauspielerinnen  (actresses)  zum  Teil mit Ihren Rollennamen, Regisseure
  52. (directors),    Drehbuchautoren    (writers),    Komponisten   (composers),
  53. Kameraleuten  (cinematographers),  Schnitt  (editors),  Bauten  (production
  54. designers),   Kostüme  (costume  designers)  und  Produzenten  (producers).
  55. Desweiteren    Zusatzinformationen    wie    Kurz-Zusammenfassungen   (plot
  56. summaries),   Bewertungen   (movie   ratings),  Erscheinungsjahr  (year  of
  57. release), Laufzeit (running time), Hintergrundinformationen (movie trivia),
  58. Filmzitaten    (quotes),    Pannen   (goofs),   Soundtracks,   Biographien,
  59. internationalen Auszeichnungen und vieles vieles mehr.

  61. Bei  mehr  als 5100 Filmen sind die kompletten Cast-Abspänne abrufbar - von
  62. den Hauptdarstellern bis zur kleinsten Nebenrolle.

  64. Neben  den  bekannten  amerikanischen  "main-stream"-Filmen  enthält  diese
  65. Filmdatenbank  außerdem  Informationen  zu  vielen  tausend  deutschen (und
  66. anderen  ausländischen) Filmproduktionen, beginnend mit Stummfilmklassikern
  67. bis hin zu aktuellsten Filmen.

  69. In  der  lesbaren ASCII-Form hat die Datenbank einen Umfang von mehr als 26
  70. MByte.   Alle Einträge stammen von den Benutzern der 'MovieDatabase', jeder
  71. kann  neue  Einträge  einsenden  und  so  zum  Wachsen  der Datenbank aktiv
  72. beitragen.

  75. 2. Die Internet MovieDatabase auf der Meeting Pearls II CD
  76. ==========================================================

  78. Die   Lizenzbedingungen  der  Copyright-Inhaber  untersagen  eindeutig  die
  79. Verbreitung  der  Filmdatenbank  auf CD-ROM ohne ausdrückliche Genehmigung.
  80. Da  es  sich  jedoch  bei  den  Meeting-Pearls  um ein 'non-profit'-Projekt
  81. handelt,  war  es  möglich,  eine  solche  Ausnahmegnehmigung  zu erhalten.
  82. Deshalb    ist    es   jetzt   erstmals   möglich,   Amiga-Benutzern   ohne
  83. Internet-Zugang,  die Benutzung dieser Datenbank zu ermöglichen.  Ebenfalls
  84. von  dieser  CD-Version  profitieren werden alle Benutzer, die bisher nicht
  85. genügend freien Festplattenplatz zur Installation der Datenbank hatten.

  87. Es  sei  aber darauf hingewiesen, daß bei der Verwendung des Programmes von
  88. CD-ROM ein nicht unbeachtlicher Performance-Verlust aufgrund der wesentlich
  89. langsameren  Zugriffszeiten  bei  CD-ROM-Geräten gegenüber einer Festplatte
  90. auftritt.    Es   wird   daher  dringend  empfohlen,  bei  genügend  freiem
  91. Plattenplatz  (>26  MB)  das  dbs-Verzeichnis, sowie das Hauptprogramm, die
  92. Dokumentation und die benötigten ARexx-Skripte von CD-ROM auf Festplatte zu
  93. kopieren.

  96. 3. Voraussetzungen
  97. ==================

  99. MovieMUI  3.1 sollte auf allen Amigas ab KS 2.0 laufen.  Natürlich muß auch
  100. Stefan  Stuntz  Magic-User-Interface  "MUI"  installiert sein (siehe docs).
  101. Ein  schneller  Prozessor  und  eine  schnelle  Festplatte  (siehe Punkt 2)
  102. erhöhen das Vergnügen in den Filmdaten zu wühlen.
  103.  
  104. Ansonsten  werden  vom Benutzer lediglich Englischkenntnisse vorausgesetzt.
  105. Da  sich  bei  diesem  Projekt  Filmbegeisterte aus vielen Ländern der Erde
  106. beteiligen, ist die komplette Datenbank, sowie die gesamte Dokumentation in
  107. Englisch  gehalten.   Allerdings  reicht  ein  einfaches  Schulenglisch zum
  108. Bedienen   des   Programms   völlig   aus.    Lediglich   beim   Lesen  der
  109. Kurzzusammenfassungen  (plots)  oder  den Hintergrundinformationen zu einem
  110. Film (trivia) kann der Griff zum Wörterbuch notwendig werden.

  112. Bei   mehr   als   3300   ausländischen  Produktionen  ist  der  außer  dem
  113. Originaltitel  noch  der  deutsche Verleihtitel abrufbar.  Wer also nur den
  114. deutschen Filmtitel kennt, braucht nicht zu verzweifeln.

  117. 4. Installation
  118. ===============

  120. Wie  schon  bei  Punkt  2  erwähnt, kann die Datenbank - wie praktisch alle
  121. Programme  auf  den Meeting Pearls - direkt von CD-ROM benutzt werden.  Aus
  122. Geschwindigkeitsgründen (das Programm MovieMUI benutzt Datenstrukturen, die
  123. hinsichtlich  auf  einen  schnellen  Festplattenzugriffs  optimiert wurden)
  124. empfiehlt   sich   jedoch   eine   Festplatteninstallation.    Dazu  reicht
  125. prinzipiell  ein Kopieren des dbs-Verzeichnises, sowie des Hauptprogrammes,
  126. der Dokumentation und benötigter Skripte aus.

  128. Eventuell   muß   der   Pfad   für  die  Datenbank-Files  in  den  MovieMUI
  129. Path-Preferences   entsprechend   neu   eingestelt   werden.    Dies   gilt
  130. insbesondere  für  Benutzer (oder ehemalige Benutzer) von MovieMUI, die das
  131. Programm von der Meeting Pearls II CD starten möchten.

  133. Wer  Zugriff  auf  die  wöchentlich erscheinenden Ergänzungsfiles ("diffs")
  134. hat,   die   z.B.    über   Internet   verfügbar   sind,   kommt   um  eine
  135. Komplettinstallation nicht herum.  Die hierbei benötigten Files finden sich
  136. im   'distribution'-Verzeichnis.    Die   Dateien  aus  diesem  Verzeichnis
  137. enthalten alle zum Aufbau der Filmdatenbank notwendigen Listen.

  139. Die Installation ist eigentlich recht einfach.  Wer genügend Platz (>55 MB)
  140. auf  seiner  Platte  frei hat, braucht nur das Archiv "imdb3_1_bin.lha" aus
  141. dem  "distribution"-Verzeichnis  zu  entpacken  und das Installer-script zu
  142. starten.   Wer weniger Platz zur Verfügung hat, kommt leider um ein Studium
  143. des  entsprechenden  Kapitels in der Dokumentation ("MovieMUI.guide") nicht
  144. herum.

  146. Die  Datenfiles reflektieren den Stand der Filmdatenbank vom 27.01.95.  Wer
  147. ausgehend  von  dieser  Distribution, die Filmdatenbank updaten möchte, muß
  148. sich  *alle*  "Diffsfiles"  ab  diesem  Datum besorgen (das erste benötigte
  149. Diff-File  heißt also "diffs-950127.tar.gz", bzw.  "imdb-diffs-950127.lha")
  150. und  mit  dem  Programm  "ApplyDiffs"  aus  dem  tools-Verzeichnis  in  die
  151. Datenlisten integrieren.

  154. 5. Benutzung der Datenbank

  157. Allen  Neulingen empfehle ich zuerst ein gründliches Studium der kompletten
  158. Anleitung  ("MovieMUI.guide"  &  "MovieDatabase.guide").   Sie  sollte  die
  159. meisten auftretenden Fragen und Probleme klären.
